Don’t Let Fake Spring Get Ya Down. Grab Pozole At These 5 Spots Instead.
Well, we fell for it again, KC. Fake Spring, the week in which the temps rise above 50 degrees and the shining sun briefly lifts the seasonal depression from our cold weary shoulders, has teased us yet again. But, hey, cheer up. The rain and snow means one more chance to enjoy soup season, especially pozole.
Pozole is one of my favorite soups of all time. It’s brothy, savory, has great texture and sings with a squeeze of lime. It may be snowing in March, but KC has no shortage of restaurants serving the rich brothy Mexican soup. (I’d be remiss not to mention Tacos Valentina’s duck pozole verde, which is one of the best dishes in the metro. However, it is off the menu for the season.)
Here are 5 spots around the metro where you can go to snag a bowl for dinner.
Tacos El Gallo (5038 Lamar Ave, Mission, KS)
We’ve been told that the Tacos El Gallo in Mission is the only location serving pozole right now.
Golden Brown (goldenbrownkc.com)
Chef Carlos Mortera’s delivery and catering service Golden Brown is my new favorite discovery. His chicken pozole is phenomenal but you can also snag some of his Mexican oil-based chili crunch or a meal of beef short rib barbacoa. Place your order by Wednesday and it will be delivered to your door (cold) on Thursday.
Los Alamos Cocina (1667 Summit St., KCMO)
The pozole is served here on Saturdays and Sundays. While I haven’t tried their menudo, I’ve heard whispers that it’s better than the pozole.
Teocali Mexican Restaurant & Cantina (2512 Holmes St, KCMO)
Don’t forget to snag some albóndigas with your pozole!
The Corner Mexican Food Restaurant (720 Main St., Grandview, MO)
Along with pozole, I highly recommend The Corner’s steak tacos. This spot also has a significant vegan menu, making it stand out from other Mexican restaurants.
